Is Channel 4 HD returning to Freesat soon?

Back in 2018, Channel 4 removed its Channel 4 HD channel, and their on demand All4 service from Freesat, apparently due to a dispute over carriage fees.

(Although you could manually add Channel 4 HD back to your Freesat box - https://www.satandpcguy.com/2018/02/20/how-to-add-c4hd-to-your-humax-freesat-box/ )

However, today, it appears that Channel 4 HD may soon return to Freesat.

Subtitles on Channel 4 returning soon....for some

Channel 4 has said that subtitles will soon be restored to several platforms and high-profile programmes, like The Great British Bake Off and The Last Leg, after weeks-long disruption, the we reported HERE.

Channel 4 have said that "intensive engineering work" will mean that live text subtitles would begin to return for viewers on Sky, Virgin Media and Freeview.

Freesat users will have to wait a bit longer for subtitles to return as Channel 4 distributes content to that platform "in a different way that is not resolved by this change".

Channel 4s on demand service, All4, should now begin to see subtitles on flagship programmes.

Satellite TV Solar Outage Time Again - October 2021

Satellite Solar Outage Time Again - October 2021

It is that time of year again when the Sun / Solar Outage can affect the power of satellite signals your satellite dish is receiving, resulting in a loss of some of the more weaker UK TV channels.

This is information for people who may be experiencing this for the first time, and a nice reminder for those that have lived here before

This occurrence happens in March and October for a couple of weeks every year, around the time of the Spring and Autumn equinox. In the northern hemisphere, sun outages occur before the March equinox (February, March) and after the September equinox (September and October).

This "satellite solar outage" happens at around 10.30 - 11.30 am and can last for upto 20 minutes.

Solar Storm alert with possible disruption to satellite signals

A SOLAR STORM travelling at more than 500 kilometres per second is due to collide with Earth on Sunday, and it could have enough of an impact to affect Earth's satellite technology.

A hole in the equatorial region of the Sun's atmosphere has appeared, researchers have said. The hole is spewing solar particles at a speed of 500 kilometres per second, or 1.8 million kilometres per hour. Unfortunately for Earth, it is in the direct path of the stream of solar particles.

Categorised as a G1 class storm, the impacts are expected to be minor but could include power grid fluctuations, impact on satellite operations, and even impacts on migratory animals when it hits today, 2nd May 2021.

A reminder of some UK TV changes for ITV1 and ITV1 HD and ITVBE that will be happening on Monday 13th April 2021.

To do this and increase capacity on their satellite transponders for more ITV1 HD regional versions, they have been closing some of the standard definition regional versions of ITV1. Also, ITVBE+1 will also be closed.

Having temporary loss of UK satellite TV signals in the morning? Dont worry, it is just the biannual solar outage time (March 2021)

Having temporary loss of UK satellite TV signals in the morning? Dont worry, it is just the biannual solar outage time (March 2021)

It is that time of year again when the sun can affect the power of satellite signals your satellite dish is receiving, resulting in a loss of some of the more weaker UK TV channels via satellite.

Don't panic - it is the bi-annual sun outage and normal this time of year.

This happens in March and October for a couple of weeks every year, around the time of the Spring and Autumn equinox. In the northern hemisphere, sun outages occur before the March equinox (February, March) and after the September equinox (September and October).

These solar outages occur when the sun is directly behind the satellite and the suns energy swamps the signal with interference.

This "satellite solar outage" happens at around 10.30 - 11.30 am and can last for up to 20 minutes and can take place up to 15 days.

Six Nations Rugby on TV 2021, could be the last on BBC and ITV as current broadcast deal comes to an end

The 2021 Six Nations takes place between 6 February and 20 March 2021.

The BBC have had live coverage of the Six Nations since its inception.

However, in 2016 it was announced that the BBC had renegotiated its deal and would start to share UK TV coverage of the Six Nations with ITV, for the next six years. Under this deal all England, Ireland and Italy home matches will be live on ITV; all Wales, Scotland and France home matches will be live on BBC: all Wales matches live on S4C.

The current UK TV deal ends with the 2021 Six Nations Championship.

And there are growing concerns that the Six Nations 2021 could be LAST available for free on BBC and ITV as Sky Sports and Amazon eye a UK TV rights bid.

UK TV and Streaming in Spain post Brexit

After reading a number of questions, inaccurate answers and "scaremongering" on the internet and social media over the last few days, I hope this will help understand what changes are going to happen when watching UK TV in Spain post Brexit.

UK Streaming Services in Spain post Brexit

Since 2018, UK residents travelling within the EU were able to keep watching their UK streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, SkyGo, NOW TV , Britbox UK and ITV Hub without the need for a VPN or Smart DNS service as part of the EUs “Digital Single Market” and "portability" rules.

These rules allowed short stayers like holiday makers, travelling from one EU country to another EU country would be able to access the same streaming video library they’re subscribed to at home without the need to "hide your ip address" or the use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) / Smart DNS (SDNS) services.
