How to add ITV2 ITV3 and ITV4 SD channels to a Humax Freesat HD set top box if you are unable to access the HD versions of these channels.

In early November, ITV made ITV2 HD ITV3 HD and ITV4 HD free to air, and no longer part of the Sky HD subscription package.

In doing so these HD channels were made available on Freesat for the first time.

ITV2 HD ITV3 HD and ITV4 HD were made the default choice on Freesat channel numbers 115, 117 and 119.

As mentioned in a previous post "ITV2HD,3HD and 4HD channels now on Freesat..."

However, these ITV frequencies that carry ITV2 HD ITV3 HD and ITV4 HD can be tricky to receive in Spain. In my service area (Costa Blanca North / Costa Azahar) , a 125x135cm satellite dish with a good LNB just about gets these frequencies (apart from in heavy rain!). Correctly aligned 1.8m and 2.4m satellite dishes should have no problems with reception either. In other areas of Spain, reception will depend on your exact location and dish size.

And as the SD versions of these channels were removed from the Freesat channel list, there is no way to watch them in SD on Freesat (apart from the +1 hour timeshift versions).

But there is currently (December 2022), a way to add these channels back to your Freesat set top box.

BBC to start switching off SD channels and go HD only

The BBC have announced plans to close their Standard Definition (SD) channels on satellite during 2023.

This will mean that the BBC channels will only be available in High Definition (HD) via satellite.

Users with a Freesat HD or Sky HD or Sky+HD set top box should not be affected, unless you watch BBC SD channels if you cannot receive BBC HD channels.

But users with older Freesat SD and Sky digiboxes will begin to lose services.

This occurrence happens in March and October for a couple of weeks every year, around the time of the Spring and Autumn equinox. In the northern hemisphere, sun outages occur before the March equinox (February, March) and after the September equinox (September and October).

This "satellite solar outage" happens at around 10.30 - 11.30 am and can last for upto 20 minutes.

Oleksandr Usyk met Anthony Joshua for the first time on 25 September 2021, which resulted in a unanimous decision defeat for Joshua, losing the WBA (Super), WBO and IBF titles to Usyk. But the two are getting back in the ring after nearly a year, with the fight rescheduled from May.

This fight is being billed as the Rage on the Red Sea and is on Saturday, August 20.

It will be held in the indoor arena at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The undercard action is set to begin from 3pm UK time, with a number of preliminary bouts for those in attendance before radio and TV coverage begins.

Ring walks are expected around 10.30pm with promoters Matchroom confirming the estimated main event start time is 10:54pm in the UK, which is gone midnight local time.

You often see requests from people on Facebook and forums from people asking if they can recommend a "wifi company" or a "wifi internet provider" for their area, when in fact there are no such things!

WiFi (or rather the official "Wi-Fi" as per its trademark) and "internet" are two completely separate things.

But is just one example of todays misuse of technical terminology, where the term "WiFi" has become a bit of a catch-all term for internet systems.

Since 1st June 2022, some people may have been experiencing issues when trying to send or receive emails via Gmail when using a third party email software like Outlook or Mozilla Firebird .

The annoying pop up box appears prompting you for your password.

And no matter how many times you input the correct password, the pop up still appears and you are still unable to send and receive emails.

Well the problems is down to how Gmail have updated their password systems.

BBC changes announced

The BBC is set to close some channels, merge some channels in a bid to save money, and to increase its online presence.

Its two news services, BBC News and BBC World News are set to merge.

There are also reports that BBC 4 will close as a broadcast channel. BBC 4 content will become only available via iPlayer. But for the last few months anyway BBC4 has become more of an archive channel already, with some content already been moved to BBC2. But this closure will not be for a few years.

Channel 4 wins rights to England's European Qualifiers and UEFA Nations League matches

England’s matches in the UEFA Nations League, European Qualifiers to UEFA EURO 2024 and International Friendlies will be shown live on Channel 4.

Channel 4 will now broadcast all of England’s upcoming qualifying matches, having already secured the rights to the UEFA Nations League campaign involving games against Germany, Italy and Hungary this summer.

Channel 4 set to be privatised by UK Government

The UK Culture secretary, Nadine Dorries, has announced that Channel 4 is to be privatised after 40 years in public ownership. The government hopes to raise around £1bn from the sell-off.

Channel 4’s remit has never been to make a profit – the money it makes is reinvested in commissioning and buying programmes from mostly British TV production companies, helping to support a key national industry.

It is that time of year again when the Sun / Solar Outage can affect the power of satellite signals your satellite dish is receiving, resulting in a loss of some of the more weaker UK TV channels.

This is information for people who may be experiencing this for the first time, and a nice reminder for those that have lived here before

This occurrence happens in March and October for a couple of weeks every year, around the time of the Spring and Autumn equinox. In the northern hemisphere, sun outages occur before the March equinox (February, March) and after the September equinox (September and October).

This "satellite solar outage" happens at around 10.30 - 11.30 am and can last for upto 20 minutes.

BBC Three launch date announce

The BBC has confirmed the launch date for the return of BBC Three as a linear channel on satellite and terrestrial tv services.

BBC Three was closed as a linear channel back in 2016, with the youth-skewing channels content being available only through online platforms, within branded blocks on the BBC’s other channels.
