HBO cracks down on viewers using VPNs to watch outside the US

Pay TV service HBO is threatening to cut off paying customers of its Now service if they are outside the US.

HBO has started to crack down on paying customers who access the HBO Now service from outside the United States.

Subscribers from countries including Canada, the UK, Germany and Australia who use VPNs and other unblocking tools are now being threatened with account terminations. HBO has sent emails to people around the world it has detected are using software tools to watch HBO Now shows.

In the last few days some of the frequencies used by Sky TV have changed their frequency settings.
They have changed their FEC from 2/3 to 5/6.

These Sky+HD problems include digiboxes freezing and locking up, slow response to remote control commands, and slow loading Sky Guide and Planner details.

Sky+HD box problems : Unresponsive Sky+HD boxes - Sky statement

Sky have released a statement with regards to a very common problem that is occurring on some of their sky+HD digiboxes.

The problem is where the boxes simply lock, freeze and become unresponsive.

The advice is to simply reboot the Sky+HD box.

However, some users are doing this three or four times a day. But Sky say, in a statement, they are working on the problem

We’re aware of an intermittent problem with some of our Pace and Samsung Sky+HD boxes. The problem causes the box to freeze or become unresponsive. If this happens to your Sky box, you can fix the problem by rebooting your box and checking your cables.

We're working hard on a permanent fix and since our last update we’ve been carrying out in-depth testing to find the root cause.

We’re still working on this and we'll provide further updates when we have more information.

Sky looking at IP delivery for 4K content

Sky said that it is “not ruling out” the possibility of delivering 4K content over the web in the future in a similar way to Netflix, after staging early trials filming in the ultra HD format.
Speaking at SES Ultra HD conference in London yesterday, Sky’s chief engineer of broadcast strategy, Chris Johns, said that there was “no reason” Sky couldn't launch a 4K channel now if there was compelling enough content to do so.

More Sky HD channels lost from cardsharing systems

Further to our previous post http://www.satandpcguy.com/blog/2014/04/sky-hd-channels-lost-cardsharing-systems/ which mentioned the first batch of Sky HD channels to be lost from cardshare systems, another batch of Sky HD channels has now been affected.

The current list of Sky HD channels no longer available on cardshare systems is:
Sky Atlantic HD
Sky Arts 1 HD
Sky Arts 2 HD
Sky Living HD
CI Crime HD
NatGeoWild HD
History HD
Nat Geo HD

These changes by Sky are in an attempt to reduce piracy of their channels via cardsharing.

If you are not using an official Sky card, Sky digibox, or paying a Sky monthly subscription, but are getting your Sky channels from the internet, using satellite receivers like the Iberosat and Ariva, then you will find the amount of channels you are receiving will be reducing over the coming weeks.
