Today saw the closing of three channels operated by Discovery.

This will affected Sky and Virgin TV customers

UK TV and Streaming in Spain post Brexit

After reading a number of questions, inaccurate answers and "scaremongering" on the internet and social media over the last few days, I hope this will help understand what changes are going to happen when watching UK TV in Spain post Brexit.

UK Streaming Services in Spain post Brexit

Since 2018, UK residents travelling within the EU were able to keep watching their UK streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, SkyGo, NOW TV , Britbox UK and ITV Hub without the need for a VPN or Smart DNS service as part of the EUs “Digital Single Market” and "portability" rules.

These rules allowed short stayers like holiday makers, travelling from one EU country to another EU country would be able to access the same streaming video library they’re subscribed to at home without the need to "hide your ip address" or the use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) / Smart DNS (SDNS) services.

ITV1 - SD and HD swap for Sky and Freesat channel 103

ITV1 has had a SD / HD channel swap today.

This swap has seen Sky and Freesat box users allocated ITV1HD on channel 103 (if not already done).

This may means that some people may have "lost" ITV1 on 103, as they have been allocated

ITV Changes 20th October...Some SD channels closing, more HD channels.

On Tuesday 20th October 2020, there will be some changes to some ITV1 regions.

ITV HD satellite changes

Over the past week or so ITV have been changing and adding their ITV1 HD channels and regions.

These changes have meant that all but two ITV1 regions now have their own HD regional variation. The two ITV regions without their own HD regional variation are ITV Border Scotland and ITV Channel TV.

With these changes, some of the ITV1 HD regions have moved to different frequencies. And two of these new frequencies are very weak in the Valencia / Costa Blanca area.

Childrens channels changes on Sky from today.

Today a number of childrens channels have been closed down, and a few moved to new channel numbers.

Disney have closed down most of their channels on satellite.

Satellite Solar Outage Time Again - October 2020

It is that time of year again when the Sun / Solar Outage can affect the power of satellite signals your satellite dish is receiving, resulting in a loss of some of the more weaker UK TV channels.

This is information for people who may be experiencing this for the first time, and a nice reminder for those that have lived here before

This occurrence happens in March and October for a couple of weeks every year, around the time of the Spring and Autumn equinox. In the northern hemisphere, sun outages occur before the March equinox (February, March) and after the September equinox (September and October).

This "satellite solar outage" happens at around 10.30 - 11.30 am and can last for upto 20 minutes.

Three new ITV HD regions testing on satellite, reception may cause problems for Spain

ITV are currently testing three new ITV1 HD regions on satellite.

These regions are Central East, Meridian South and London.

So some Sky HD box users may notice that their 103 which is currently ITV 1 SD (Standard Definition), may revert to ITV1 HD soon.

ITV1 HD on Freesat will remain on Freesat channel 111.

However, these three new regions are testing on frequencies on the UK beam.

And those particular frequencies are very weak here in Spain, especially in my service area,

Sky Arts to be available for free on Freeview and Freesat and Sky boxes soon.

Sky Arts, Sky Tvs dedicated arts and culture channel, will become free for everyone in the UK from September.

The decision to make Sky Arts free to air is, Sky says, a move to support and champion the arts at a vital time for the cultural sector. It puts artists and creatives centre stage on a channel that everyone across the UK can watch.

Sky Arts will be available subscription free on Freeview (UK only, since Freeview is not available in Spain!), Freesat, Sky, and other free to air satellite receivers.

Sky UK to launch new Sky Sports NFL channel

Sky and the NFL have agreed a new five-year partnership to broadcast the NFL, the first time the league has joined with an international broadcaster to launch a channel dedicated to the sport.
