BBC channel numbers on Sky TV

Listed below are the channel numbers in the Sky satellite EPG (electronic programme guide) for all available BBC TV channels and radio stations.

On the 26 March 2013 we’ll be changing our EPG positions on Sky at the same time as launching BBC Two HD. The table below reflects the new channel numbers. Please visit (http://satandpcguy.com/blog/2013/03/bbc-2-hd-launch-details-and-new-channel-numbers-for-bbc-one-hd/ ) for information on BBC 2 HD.

BBC One HD will be 141 (was 143)
BBC Two HD will be 142 (BBC HD was 169)
BBC ALBA will be 143 (was 168)

If you have a Sky set-top box but don't have an active viewing card, you will receive BBC One London on channel 101 and BBC Two England on 102. This is because the receiver has no way of establishing where in the UK it is located and automatically defaults to these two channels.

BBC 2 HD launch details, and new channel numbers for BBC One HD

Further to the news that the BBC HD Channel will be closing, and being replaced by BBC Two HD (http://satandpcguy.com/blog/2013/02/bbc-2-hd-to-launch-in-march-2013/) the BBC have released further details for the launch of BBC Two HD.

BBC Two HD

BBC Two HD will launch at 6am on Tuesday 26 March 2013.

In most cases, BBC Two HD will use the same channel number as BBC HD.

However, Sky HD viewers will see that we are moving to two new numbers, which allows us to put BBC One HD and BBC Two HD next to each other. (We will also move BBC Alba to 143 on Sky so that it is grouped with other BBC channels.)

BBC One HD BBC Two HD
Freeview HD / YouView 101 102
Sky HD 141 142
Virgin Media 108 187
Freesat HD 108 109

BBC One HD, currently on Sky channel 143, will move to Sky channel 141.
BBC Two HD, currently the BBC HD Channel on Sky channel 169, will move to Sky channel 142. BBC Alba, currently Sky channel 168, will move to Sky channel 143.

BBC One Scotland HD to launch soon, with BBC One Wales HD later in January 2013

Late in 2012, the BBC launched the first national variants of BBC One HD starting with Northern Ireland on 24 October 2012

This is the first rgional variation available after the BBC One England HD.

Now two more BBC One HD regional variations will be launched soon.

BBC One Scotland HD will launch on Monday 14 January 2013 on Freeview HD, Sky HD, Virgin Media, Freesat HD and YouView

BBC One Wales HD will launch on Tuesday 29 January on Freeview HD, Sky HD, Virgin Media, Freesat HD and YouView.

BBC One Scotland HD and BBC One Wales HD will take over from BBC One HD in the electronic programme guide (EPG) for viewers in Scotland and Wales on the date of launch so these are the channel numbers where you will find them:

BBC One England HD / BBC One Scotland HD / BBC One Wales HD / BBC One Northern Ireland HD

Freeview HD /YouView  101

Sky HD 143

Virgin Media 108

Freesat HD 108

Users shouldn’t have to do anything to start receiving the new services. If you live in Scotland or Wales you should just see your new version of BBC One HD appear on the current BBC One HD channel number.

And BBC HD will become BBC Two HD, "a few months' time."

BBC Two HD to replace BBC HD

The BBC has announced plans to replace the four-year-old BBC HD channel with a high definition simulcast of BBC Two.

Today, the corporation confirmed a number of proposals in its Delivering Quality First initiative, aimed at saving £670m a year by 2016/7 as it faces major budget cuts under its new licence fee settlement.

The proposals include the axe of BBC Two's daytime budget, the scaling back of BBC Three and BBC Four, as well as a small reduction in BBC One's budget.

Also, the corporation has put forward the proposal of scrapping the BBC HD channel in favour of BBC Two HD, which will "broadcast alongside the existing BBC One HD channel".

Launched in 2007, BBC HD initially provided a home for all of the BBC's high definition programming, including shows from BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Three and BBC Four. The channel also hosted the BBC's first live 3D broadcast this July for the Wimbledon Finals.

However, BBC HD has been dogged by a picture quality controversy on satellite over the past two years, and its remit has been questioned ever since BBC One HD launched in autumn 2010.

The corporation has now proposed dropping the standalone BBC HD channel, but it is unclear what will be done with HD content from BBC Three and BBC Four under the new arrangement.

Elsewhere in the cuts proposals, the BBC said that it would reduce the BBC Red Button interactive service to make it "consistent across all digital TV platforms". Plans were also announced earlier in the year to reduce the budget of BBC Online by 25%.

In a statement, BBC director general Mark Thompson added: "This is a plan which puts quality and creativity first. It's a plan for a smaller BBC, but a BBC which uses its resources more effectively and collaboratively to deliver a full range of services to the public.

"The plan meets the savings target we agreed in last year's licence fee settlement, but also identifies nearly £150m per year to invest in new high-quality output and in the platforms and services of the future."

The BBC Trust is now running a public consultation on all the cost-saving proposals put forward by the BBC, which will close in December.
