Astra 2E expected launch and start date - from SES Astra
Below is an image taken from an SES Astra presentation earlier this month, originally posted on the 254th March on out other blog http://satandpcguy.com/blog/2013/03/astra-2e-expected-start-date/)
It shows the three new UK TV satellites, and their expected launch and operational dates.
The first new UK TV satellite, Astra 2F, is already in operation.
The seconds new satellite, Astra 2E, will not be launched until July 2013, and is expected not to be in operation until September 2013.
And not August, as many expected.
So it looks like BBC ITV C4 channels will not be moving to this new satellite until September 2013.
Until Astra 2E is operational, no-one will know what its reception will be like in Spain. Anyone, including satellite TV installers in Spain, who says they know what Astra 2Es reception will be like in Spain, and the require dish sized to receive Astra 2E, is only speculating. You cannot even use Astra 2Fs reception in Spain as a benchmark, as each satellites reflectors will be different, and thus so will the satellites signal footprint.

If you have a Sky set-top box but don't have an active viewing card, you will receive BBC One London on channel 101 and BBC Two England on 102. This is because the receiver has no way of establishing where in the UK it is located and automatically defaults to these two channels.

BBC 2 HD launch details, and new channel numbers for BBC One HD
Further to the news that the BBC HD Channel will be closing, and being replaced by BBC Two HD (http://satandpcguy.com/blog/2013/02/bbc-2-hd-to-launch-in-march-2013/) the BBC have released further details for the launch of BBC Two HD.
BBC Two HD will launch at 6am on Tuesday 26 March 2013.
In most cases, BBC Two HD will use the same channel number as BBC HD.
However, Sky HD viewers will see that we are moving to two new numbers, which allows us to put BBC One HD and BBC Two HD next to each other. (We will also move BBC Alba to 143 on Sky so that it is grouped with other BBC channels.)
| BBC One HD | BBC Two HD | |
| Freeview HD / YouView | 101 | 102 |
| Sky HD | 141 | 142 |
| Virgin Media | 108 | 187 |
| Freesat HD | 108 | 109 |
BBC Two HD, currently the BBC HD Channel on Sky channel 169, will move to Sky channel 142. BBC Alba, currently Sky channel 168, will move to Sky channel 143.

Sky Box Autostandby Mode: New Eco Mode
Sky have started to roll out a software update in the last few days.
Initially this software will be deployed to Sky DRX890 and DRX895 digiboxes.
Amongst the updates, is a change to the "Auto standby" mode.
Auto Standby, is the mode that puts your Sky digibox into "Standby" should the box be left on a channel for so many hours without a button being pressed on the remote control. This, the Sky digibox assumes, means their is no one watching the box. And so, the Sky digibox will power down into Standby mode.
Standby mode is shown on the Sky digibox, as the "on / off" lights will be orange.
This new update allows you to put the box in "Eco" mode.
So instead of powering down into "Standby" mode, the Sky digibox will power down to "Eco" mode, and will automatically put your Sky digibox box into RED standby mode overnight if you don't have any recordings scheduled. Supposedly this saves more in power than leaving your box in "Orange" Standby mode.
You can change this option in the Sky digibox menu system.

BBC Formula One 2013 coverage and broadcast team
Suzi Perry, Allan McNish and Tom Clarkson have all signed up to the BBC's team for coverage of the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Former MotoGP presenter Perry takes over as BBC F1 lead anchor from Jake Humphrey, who has left the corporation to join BT Sport.
Eddie Jordan remains with the BBC as chief analyst, and Ben Edwards once again leads the television commentary with ex-F1 driver David Coulthard.
Lee McKenzie heads the pit lane team for television, but she will now be backed by F1 journalist Tom Clarkson, who joins the BBC as a pit lane reporter. Gary Anderson returns as technical analyst across television, radio and online coverage.
On Radio 5 Live, James Allen will once more act as correspondent and commentator, with Jennie Gow as pit lane reporter.
Former F1 driver Allan McNish will appear on Radio 5 Live for at least six Grands Prix this season as an expert analyst, starting in Barcelona.
There will be approximately 40 extra hours of live Formula One coverage on BBC network television this year, with practice sessions to be shown live at weekends on BBC Two and the new BBC Two HD channel.
BBC One and BBC One HD will show nine live races in 2013 - including Canada, Spain, Britain and Brazil - along with extended highlights of the races shown exclusively live on Sky.
"Everyone on the BBC team is hugely excited about the new season," said Ben Gallop, the BBC's Head of Formula 1.
"Last year saw us rise to the challenge of bringing the action to fans through the mix of live television and highlights, delivering great programmes which were reflected in impressive audience figures."
He added: "2013 sees new faces, practice on BBC Two and HD on live race weekends and a greater sharing of talent across BBC television, radio and online.
"With Suzi Perry at the helm, we're aiming to bring even more content, insight and access to audiences throughout the season."
Alongside TV and radio, the BBC is also offering extensive online coverage of F1 via the BBC Sport website and apps.
Web users can access live simulcasts of the BBC's live races, including additional options such as the 'driver tracker', on-board cameras and the pit lane stream.
Motorsport legend Murray Walker will provide a series of archive-based videos for every race of the season under the Murray's Memories strand.

Loss of some UK satellite TV channels in Spain for the next few weeks.
If you lose channels for the next 2 weeks at around 10-11 am for a few minutes then this is normal for this time of year.
Basically the sun is right behind the satellites, and the energy from the sun will swamp out the weaker satellite signals.
There is nothing you can do about it, as it can even affect "big dishes" also.
Rebooting the box will not help - apart from killing time until the signal returns again
It does not happen on ALL channels, as some are stronger than others.
This loss of signal happens twice a year in March and October - around the time of the equinoxes.
