Astra 2G is live, and channels are moving to the new UK TV satellite

Astra 2G, the third and final new UK TV satellite at the Astra 28 east slot is now live and carrying channels.

Although at the time of writing there has been no official statement from SES or any broadcasters.

But about a dozen frequencies have moved to Astra 2G from Astra 2E, Astra 2F and the aging Eutelsat 28A over the last few days.

Astra 2G, the third and final new UK TV satellite is now slowly moving towards the UK TV slot at 28 east.

At the time of writing it is at 32 degrees east, and as it is moving at about 0.5 degrees a day, will be at 28 east by the 15th June.

Once in position, it is expected that channels  on the aging and failing Eutelsat 28A will be moved to Astra 2G. Also some channels from the two other new satellites, Astra 2E and Astra 2F, will also move to Astra 2G.

Astra 2G, the third and final new UK TV satellite, moving.... towards its test location.

For the last few months, Astra 2G has been on an interim mission. This interim mission was to "reserve" a slot at 21.5º east, a slot for the Luxembourg governments military satellite, GovSat.

Astra 2G is the third and final new UK TV satellite for the 28 east location.
ASTRA 2G was successfully launched at the end of December 2014. .

It was expected that Astra 2G would be operational at 28 east for UK TV sometime early 2015.

Astra 2G - now in geo-stationary orbit.

Astra 2G has been successfully deployed in geo-stationary orbit.

Astra 2G is currently located at 21.04º E.

The solar arrays and reflector antennas have been deployed and the satellite has acquired final Earth pointing.

Astra 2G Testing should begin shortly.

Astra 2G satellite has been successfully launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome (03:37 local time 28/12/2014 or 21:37 GMT 27/12/2014)

Astra 2G is the third and final satellite in a replacement programme for the UK TV satellites at 28.2-5 degrees East

Astra 2G - Launch delayed

During tests at the Baikonur Cosmodrome on the "Proton-M" rocket spacecraft carrying the "Astra-2G" satellite an issue was found in complex command devices of the "Breeze-M" rocket boosters.

They will now be moving the launch vehicle from the launch pad to the assembly building 92A-50 for more tests and inspections to eliminate the identified faults.

ILS Proton to Launch Astra 2G Satellite

ASTRA 2G is the third spacecraft of a three satellite investment programme (ASTRA 2E, 2F and 2G) that SES contracted with Airbus Defence and Space in order to provide replacement as well as incremental satellite capacity in the orbital arc of 28.2/28.5 degrees East. ASTRA 2G carries 62 Ku-band transponders as well as 4 Ka-band transponders. The different beams provide coverage over the UK and Ireland, Europe and West Africa.
