Astra 2G- the final new UK TV satellite - news update

Astra 2G is the third and final new UK TV satellite for the 28 east location.
ASTRA 2G was successfully launched at the end of December 2014. .

It was expected that Astra 2G would be operational at 28 east for UK TV sometime early 2015.

ITV3 HD moves to the UK beam on Astra 2F

Today ITV3 HD has moved to the UK beam on Astra 2F.

ITV 3 HDs move from the European beam, may mean loss of this ITV 3 HD channel in some areas of southern Spain and Portugal. This is because the UK beam is harder to receive than the European beam.

Sky+HD box problems : Unresponsive Sky+HD boxes - Sky statement

Sky have released a statement with regards to a very common problem that is occurring on some of their sky+HD digiboxes.

The problem is where the boxes simply lock, freeze and become unresponsive.

The advice is to simply reboot the Sky+HD box.

However, some users are doing this three or four times a day. But Sky say, in a statement, they are working on the problem

Unresponsive Sky+HD boxes | 16 February 2015

We’re aware of an intermittent problem with some of our Pace and Samsung Sky+HD boxes. The problem causes the box to freeze or become unresponsive. If this happens to your Sky box, you can fix the problem by rebooting your box and checking your cables.

We're working hard on a permanent fix and since our last update we’ve been carrying out in-depth testing to find the root cause.

We’re still working on this and we'll provide further updates when we have more information.

Sky Sports World Cup, a dedicated cricket channel for 2015 Cricket World Cup tournament

Sky Sports will dedicate an entire channel to the ICC Cricket World Cup, from the first to the last day of the biggest one-day event in the international cricket calendar.

For six weeks, Sky Sports 2 will become ‘Sky Sports World Cup’, giving viewers over 1,000 hours of round-the-clock cricket coverage, including all 49 matches live, as well as build-up, analysis and highlights. Two dedicated reporters will be in Australia and New Zealand, and the Verdict show will be back live for every England match to debate the performance.

ITV1 will show highlights of all of England’s games, including the match against Scotland Highlights of the other matches, including the semi-final and final, will be on ITV4.

Sky looking at IP delivery for 4K content

Sky said that it is “not ruling out” the possibility of delivering 4K content over the web in the future in a similar way to Netflix, after staging early trials filming in the ultra HD format.
Speaking at SES Ultra HD conference in London yesterday, Sky’s chief engineer of broadcast strategy, Chris Johns, said that there was “no reason” Sky couldn't launch a 4K channel now if there was compelling enough content to do so.

UK Ultra-HD could hit 1m units

The forecasts for 4K/Ultra HD take-up this year have exceeded all expectations. 2014 saw around 200,000 UHD units sold in Britain (3 per cent of the market), and this year’s forecasts could see as many as 995,000 large-format 4K sets sold. The data comes from market analyst GfK, and were presented at the SES-sponsored 4K/Ultra HD conference in London.
