UK Satellite TV Spain. Freesat Spain, IPTV Spain, Sky TV Spain, UK TV Spain.
UK Satellite TV Costa Blanca

UK TV is available to expats in the Costa Blanca area of Spain. Even with the recent introduction of new UK TV satellites reception of all UK TV channels is very good.

Reception of the main UK TV channels, like BBC and ITV, via satellite, using a Sky digibox, or Freesat set top box, will mean you have to have a satellite dish measuring a minimum of 90x110cm "1m".

For some areas of Costa Blanca, a minimum 110x120cm satellite dish is required for reception of BBC and ITV via Freesat and Sky.

For some areas of Costa Blanca, a minimum 125x135cm satellite dish is required for reception of BBC and ITV via Freesat and Sky.

For UK TV (Sky, Freesat) direct from the satellite, the recommended dish size for my service area is 125x135cm.
We use a Tecatel 125x135cm satellite dish, which we have found to outperform other satellite dishes of similar size - in both signal performance and build quality.
A smaller 100x110cm satellite can be used, which is the bare minimum sized dish for good reception.
Signals can be received on smaller satellite dishes (like the 90x100 "1m" satellite dish), but signals reception will not be stable.
Standard installation of a 125x135cm high performing satellite dish, wall bracket or floor stand, single output high performance LNB, and reasonable single cable run is 275 euros.
Add a Freesat HD satellite receiver, for 125 euros, and you can be watching over 100 subscription free UK TV channels, 11 of which in FULL HD.

This weeks UK TV and Satellite TV in Spain News

Our news and free help and advice forum at http://www.satandpcguy.com/forum

UK Satellite TV Installations:
There are 11 subscription free HD TV channels available via satellite, including BBC1HD, BBC2HD, BBC3HD, BBC4HD, ITV1HD and C4HD. Much better image resolution on a HD TV than a TV rebroadcaster or internet IPTV system!

Satellite Dish Installations in my service area (Calpe to Valencia) :

a 100x110cm (1.1m) satellite dish will work for people with limited space. Standard installation of this dish is from 200 euros.

a 125x135cm (1.25/1.35m) satellite dish would provide better reception and is the "recommended" dish for my area. Standard installation of this dish of from 275 euros.

Astra 2E in Spain - News Update - is Astra 2E finally moving to 28 east...?v

Astra 2E (the second new UK TV satellite) News Update :

14/01/14 : According to various satellite tracking websites tonight, Astra 2E is finally on its way from its test location of 43 east, towards the UK TV location of 28 east.

At the time of writing, it is at 42 east and moving slowly. So it will take several days for it to move into location, and then it is expected a few test frequencies will be fired up, and only then can we start to work out its reception in Spain.

A list of the channels and frequencies affected by the recent "satellite shuffle" between Eutelsat 28A and Astra.

A list of the channels and frequencies affected by the recent "satellite shuffle" between Eutelsat 28A and Astra.

Below is a list of the channels and frequencies affected by the recent "satellite shuffle" between Eutelsat 28A and Astra.

Note that for some people in some areas of Spain, channels on the Astra 2F UK beam may be unavailable, as your satellite dish may be too small to receive these frequencies.

As a general rule of thumb, if you can receive Channel Five, then you should be able to receive those other channels on Astra 2Fs UK beam.

If you are struggling to receive those channels on the Astra 2F UK beam, then it may be possible to search for the channels on their "Final" frequencies, as some of the channels are actually operating on their final frequencies.

On a Sky box, you simply go to the "Add Channels" menu option, and then add the channels to your Sky boxes "Other Channels" list, accessed via the Services Menu.

Hopefully by the 10th October, all channels will be on their final frequencies, and the Sky Guide and the Freesat Guide channel lists are all correctly "mapped" to the new frequencies.

IPTV sales talk confusing and scaring worried expats about the future of UK TV in Spain.

IPTV sales talk confusing and scaring worried expats about the future of UK TV in Spain.

Interesting to hear that some companies offering “IPTV” in Spain, as ring people up and saying “You will lose your Satellite TV later this year, but our IPTV system will work fine”

A few points:
a) How do these companies know what the signal will be like in Spain for a satellite that has not yet left the factory, and expected not to be operational until September?
b) How do these companies know if all of Spain will be affected or only some areas be affected – like the fact between Alicante and Valencia we can get the first new satellite nice and easily on a 1m satellite dish...
c) No matter what, you will always be able to receive SOME UK TV channel via satellite, as some of the channels are on a “European beam” which is nice and easy to receive, and some channels are not even on the Astra satellites that are being replaced!
d) They fail to mention what the quality of IPTV / internet TV is like – which is pretty poor when you watch it on your 50” HD TV – especially when compared to the full 1080 HD image which you can get on Freesat HD and Sky HD – which you can get on a 1m satellite dish!
e) And not to forget that some systems offering UK TV over the internet as simply using the free streams from filmon. And some systems even ask you to PAY for these streams even though they get them for free

True, later this year things may change, they may not, they may change for the better, they may change for the worse.

But until it happens, no-one knows for sure.

So why do these companies insist that they know that all of UK TV in Spain will end later this year, and try to confuse and scare people into thinking they will lose their UK TV channels in Spain come the new satellites, Oh I know – spill the doom and gloom for sales purposes, and to confuse people into buying something when in fact, come September, all UK TV may still be available in Spain.

Is the end of UK TV Online in Spain coming to an end.....

This is from a case in the UK.

TVCatchup is an online TV service, that allows registered users access to TV programms from the UK broadcasters that they may have missed. At the moment, they cannot, under UK law, provide this services outside the UK.

However, the UK broadcasters say that what they are providing in the UK is illegal, and against their intellectualt property rights, by redistributing TV content without the permission of the programmes makers and channels.

However, from the quote below, it appears that TVCatchup are in breach of copyright and intellectual rights. Note that the BBC are not involved in this issue, rather ITV, Channel 4 and Five!

Makes you wonder if the same same will apply in Spain, and all those companies offering UK TV by internet / phone lines, although they say EU Law makes them legal, that Spanish Intellectual Property law say they are not.

The Television Without Frontiers / AVMS Directive was scheduled to become law in ALL EU member states on the 19th December 2009, but only a handful of memeber have implimented it, with a few more only implimenting certain areas.

At the time of writing Spain like the UK, has not yet, fully implimented the Television Without Frontiers / AVMS Directive.

So makes you wonder how companies in Spain say that under EU law their services they are providing are legal.......

If companies in the UK cannot stream UK TV channels to the UK, then it is fair to say that non UK companies also cannot stream UK TV channels WITHOUT THE PERMISSION of the channels themselves...and they cannot hide under EU law, as it is that countries Copyright and Intellectual Property law that seeks permissions from the channels should you wish to redistribute them

[quote]A High Court judge has dismissed arguments brought by TV Catchup Ltd that its online streaming service does not constitute broadcasting in a copyright infringement case brought against TV Catchup Ltd by ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.

TV Catchup had provided access to the commercial channels as well as those belonging to the BBC as part of a 50-channel package, made available through the web, iPhones and games consoles. Like Zattoo, which withdrew from the UK after a similar dispute, a short delay is made at every channel change to allow the company to insert its own advertisements.

Appearing on behalf of the claimants James Mellor QC argued the transmissions could not be recognized as broadcasts under Section 6 of the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988, but still met with Section 20 as it involved the communication of his clients’ broadcasts.

Anthony Boswood QC, defending, argued that rather than a broadcast of “one to many”, the online transmissions of TV Catch Up were actually “one to one”. He said that in order to meet with Section 20 the transmission had to comply with Section 6 in the first place.

Presiding, Justice Kitchin said Mr Boswood’s arguments were confusing the protected work and the restricted act of communication to the public by electronic transmission of all of those images, sounds and other information. He said that while Section 17 of the Act prohibited making a copy of the broadcast and Section 18 issuing copies of the broadcast to the public, there was no requirement that the copy itself must be a broadcast. Justice Kitchin said he was satisfied the claimants had a real prospect of success.

TV Catch Up will find out in detail at a full hearing in the New Year.

As of Monday night (November 29), TV Catch Up remained available, though channels such as ITV1 and Channel 4, although advertised were absent, others including BBC One, Sky News and, curiously, ITV4 could be viewed.

Last week the New York Southern District Court issued a temporary restraining order preventing the online video service FilmOn streaming programming from the major US networks. However, the site remains operational, including its UK version.
