Film4 HD and More4HD coming soon to Sky HD

Two new High Definition channels, Film4 HD and More4HD, to set to join Sky+HD.

This means Film4HD and More4 HD will only be available to Sky HD subbscribers.

They will not be available to Freesat HD users.

Following on from the launch of Channel 4 HD and E4 HD, both of which first launched to UK viewers through the Sky platform, two further channels will become available to Sky's 4.3 million high definition customers for the first time - Film4 HD and More 4 HD.

This will complete the HD roll-out of Channel 4's core channel portfolio, which began in 2006 when Channel 4 became the first commercial Public Service Broadcaster to launch an HD service.

This means that Sky homes will be able to access 66 HD channels, further extending Sky's HD leadership. Sky+HD is Europe's most comprehensive and popular HD service.

Beware! Computer scam alert threatens fines and also jail

A POWERFUL virus is a potential threat to all computer owners in Spain. The virus attacks computer while users are on line, leading to the screen icons disappearing, and being replaced with a page appearing to be from Spain’s National Police.

This states in Spanish that the computer has been blocked because the user is guilty of one of the offences listed on the page. EWN has been contacted by several readers on the Costa Blanca already affected by the scam .

Among the list of alleged offences, with statute references and penalties including fines and prison terms, are watching violent and illegal pornography, illegally downloading films and songs, and having pirated software.

The scam is focussed in such a way that most receiving are unlikely to report it to the police for fear of being thought to have broken the law. A swathe of payment options are given, with an assurance that upon receipt of €100 the computer will be unlocked. However when paid, the computer remains hacked.

Computer experts say the solution is to professionally have Windows re-installed, though previously stored data will be lost along with the virus.

This is from the Euro Weekly Newspaper. This sounds very similar to something a few months ago

BT lands exclusive UK television rights to show live rugby union beating Sky and ESPN

BT has made further inroads into live TV sport, signing a £152m deal for the exclusive UK rights to Aviva Premiership rugby union, which is currently broadcast by rivals BSkyB and ESPN.

The deal will see up to 69 live Aviva Premiership matches per season shown exclusively by BT Vision from next year, when the telecoms company will also begin broadcasting live Premier League football for the first time.

Under the deal with Premership Rugby, the umbrella organisation of the Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs, BT will also have live broadcast rights to the JP Morgan Asset Management Sevens competition from the 2013-14 season and any future European games featuring Aviva Premiership clubs from 2014-15.

The announcement comes just three months after BT won the rights for 32 Premier League games per season for three years from 2012/13. The telecoms giant paid a bumper £738m for the package, which it will put out to tender for production later this year.

BT, which owns the BT Vision broadband subscription service, has already said it plans to launch a sports channel to broadcast live Premier League matches.

The company is in early stage talks with ITV and others about a potential partnership to produce its Premier League coverage.

BT said it would look to distribute its live rugby coverage to a variety of platforms, as with its Premier League rights.

Mark McCafferty, chief executive of Premiership Rugby, described the deal as game-changing for the sport.

Marc Watson, BT Vision chief executive, added: "BT is serious about sport and this deal means we will be offering the very best rugby action alongside some of the most thrilling football matches from the Premier League. That is a winning combination and one that will appeal to fans of both sports."

BBC to show NFL American Football LIVE on Monday Night Football

The BBC has reached agreement to broadcast the National Football League’s iconic Monday Night Football for the 2012 season.

Monday Night Football, which launched in the 1970s and helped build the popularity of the NFL in the United States, will be aired live by the BBC on the Red Button and will be streamed live on the BBC Sport website.

The deal means that MNF is now available to fans in the UK on a free-to-air basis. The season kicks off with a double-header next Monday (September 10), with the Cincinnati Bengals travelling to the Baltimore Ravens (kick-off at 12 midnight UK time), followed by the San Diego Chargers facing the Oakland Raiders (kick-off 3.15 a.m.)

Viewers can access BBC’s Red Button service by pressing the red button on their remote from any BBC TV channel on their digital TV (including cable, satellite and Freeview). BBC Online’s coverage will be available via the BBC Sports website at www.bbc.co.uk/sport.

David Murray, Head of Rights, BBC Sport, said: “We look forward to bringing Monday Night Football to our audience, who this summer have shown a great appetite for sport content via our online and red button streams. We’re delighted that our relationship with the NFL continues to grow and we look forward to a great season.”

In addition to MNF, BBC TV will continue to air live coverage of the Super Bowl, which is played in New Orleans on February 3, 2013; highlights of the International Series game between the New England Patriots and St Louis Rams at Wembley on Sunday October 28; and weekly playoff highlights in January.  BBC Radio will air at least one live game commentary per week on 5Live Sports Extra, beginning with the season opener between the Dallas Cowboys and Super Bowl champion New York Giants at 1.30 a.m. this Wednesday night.

“We are thrilled to be extending our relationship with the BBC in this way,” said Alistair Kirkwood, Managing Director of NFLUK. “Monday Night Football is one of the jewels of the NFL season and the ability for our fans to see it free of charge is very exciting.”

From Week 2 of the season, Monday Night Football will revert to its usual 1.30 a.m. start time. In Week 2 (September 17), viewers will be able to see Peyton Manning lead the Denver Broncos into battle at the Atlanta Falcons, while Week 3 features NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers taking on the Seattle Seahawks.

The full Monday Night Football schedule is:

Week 1 – Cincinnati at Baltimore; San Diego at Oakland

Week 2 – Denver at Atlanta
Week 3 – Green Bay at Seattle

Week 4 – Chicago at Dallas

Week 5 – Houston at NY Jets

Week 6 – Denver at San Diego

Week 7 – Detroit at Chicago

Week 8 – San Francisco at Arizona

Week 9 – Philadelphia at New Orleans

Week 10 – Kansas City at Pittsburgh

Week 11 – Chicago at San Francisco

Week 12 – Carolina at Philadelphia

Week 13 – NY Giants at Washington

Week 14 – Houston at New England

Week 15 – NY Jets at Tennessee

Week 16 – Atlanta at Detroit (Saturday night)

Plans for the broadcasts are still being formulated but along with the ESPN game coverage, featuring Mike Tirico and Super Bowl-winning head coach Jon Gruden, specific UK-related content will be developed. This includes possible incorporation of NFLUK’s popular Inside The Huddle podcast, which regularly ranks in the Top 5 of the iTunes’ chart for professional sports podcasts.

The Monday Night Football deal completes the package of NFL coverage in the UK for the 2012 season, following previous announcements that:
•Sky Sports will carry Sunday double-headers and all Thursday night games throughout the regular season, plus all postseason games live, as part of a new three-year deal
•Channel 4 will air Sunday Night Football live, this year in HD

NFLUK would like to acknowledge and apologise for the frustration and uncertainty that many fans have experienced due to the late finalisation of this year’s UK television line-up and thank everyone for their patience and continued support of the NFL.  NFLUK Managing Director Alistair Kirkwood is inviting fans to send in questions for a Q and A that will explain some of the issues involved in this year’s TV negotiations. Further details of that will follow soon.

Can I receive Spanish TV using my Sky digibox?

Simply no.

Firstly Spanish TV is now digital. It is transmitted terrestrially. Sky boxes do not have a digital terrestrial tuner. Sky boxes only have an analogue terrestrial tuner. So you cannot receive Spanish TV using my Sky digibox in Spain if you connect it to a TV aerial in Spain.

More on TDT - Spanish Digital Terrestrail TV here

Secondly, a Sky box cannot manage other encryption services. Most Spanish channels on satellite use a different encryption system to that used by Sky. So the Sky box cannot physically read a viewing card used to encrypt Spanish satellite TV.

A Sky box is designed to boot up and start to work using data from the UK TV satellites at 28 east. However, Spanish TV is transmitted from Astra 19.2 East and Hispasat 30 West, which do not carry the data required to boot up a Sky digibox.

If you want to watch Spanish TV via satellite then you will require a Canal+ dish, box and subscription.

New Sky HD EPG to have "Undelete" option for accidental deletions from Sky Planner

With the rollout of their new Sky HD EPG, there are some new features for Sky+HD users.

Sky are adding an Undelete feature, which promises to make accidentally deleting a show from your Planner a thing of the past.

Sky are adding a new feature to Sky+ called Undelete, so you’ll never miss a TV show because you've accidentally deleted it from your Planner. All deleted shows will be added to the Deleted tab and you’ll be able to restore them to your Planner or delete them permanently from there. The Deleted tab will be found to the left of your Planner’s All tab.

There’s no need to worry that you’ll fill up your hard disk with this new feature. The oldest items will be deleted automatically and permanently if you need more space for new recordings.

Sky rebrands Anytime ahead of BBC iPlayer launch

Sky has today (September 6) announced that the Anytime service on Sky+ set top boxes will be rebranded as On-Demand for the launch of catch-up TV services on the satellite platform, including BBC iPlayer.

In a statement today, Sky said that the new On-Demand tab will soon be added to the Sky Guide, replacing Anytime and the internet-enabled Anytime+ offerings.

The rebranded On-Demand section will include a brand new Catch Up TV tab, enabling viewers to catch up on the last seven days of television on Sky Channels such as Sky1 and Sky Atlantic.

Following major deals announced earlier in the year, Sky viewers will also be able to access the full ITV Player and Demand 5 services, followed shortly after the update rolls out by the landmark launch of BBC iPlayer.

"You won't need to gather around your laptop to recap the week's best shows," said Sky. "They'll be available to enjoy on your TV, in the comfort of your living room."

Sky previously relied on the Sky+ personal video recorder service for customers to watch shows after they had been aired, but it will now offer a full-blown catch-up TV offering.

The rebranding of Anytime+ means that a new Sky Store tab will be added to the Sky Guide, offering a range of movies to rent on the box, ranging from the latest blockbusters to classic titles.

There will also be dedicated tabs in the On-Demand section for Showcase, along with genres such as Movies, Docs, Entertainment, Kids and Sport.
Sky has announced other changes in its latest Sky Guide update, including the addition of an Undelete option to the Sky+ functionality that "promises to make accidentally deleting a show from your Planner a thing of the past."

All deleted shows will be added to a new 'Deleted' tab and users will be able to restore them to their Planner, or delete them permanently from there.

"There's no need to worry that you'll fill up your hard disk with this new feature," said Sky. "The oldest items will be deleted automatically and permanently if you need more space for new recordings."

Other new features in the update include the Docs tab moving to the middle of the Sky Guide, enabling users to more easily locate factual TV shows.

The Help section will feature tailored menus for all Sky Guide functions, like On Demand, Box Office, Parental Settings and others.

Anyone wanting to disable the remote control functions on the Sky+ iPad app will be able to do so via the Sky Guide's Parental section.

As with all previous TV guide updates, the new software will roll out in phases based on the type of Sky box customers have, starting with the latest Sky+HD box (DRX890 model) and the Sky+HD 1TB box.

The boxes will be updated automatically in the middle of the night to avoid any major disruption.

An exact launch date for BBC iPlayer has not yet been confirmed, but anyone wanting to enjoy the new Catch Up TV service will need to connect their box to a broadband router.

BBC to change HD frequencies in September 2012

During the early hours of 27 September 2012, the BBC will be making some changes to its BBC HD frequencies and transponder.

These changes include chaning from QPSK to 8PSK, and changing the FEC from 8/9 FEC to 2/3.

This will allow more HD capacity and channels on the BBC HD transponder. And this extra HD capacity will be used for the forthcoming launch of BBC One HD for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The BBC HD Changes For Sky Box Users

If you have Sky, you should not notice the change and shouldn't have to do anything on or after 27 September. If you do have an issue receiving the BBC HD channels from this date you can try unplugging your Sky set top box, waiting 30s and plugging it back in again. If that doesn't resolve your problem it's best to contact Sky on 08442 411 653.

The BBC HD Changes For Freesat Box Users

If you have Freesat you may need to put your HD box or TV into standby for 30 seconds and then switch it back on again to continue to receive the two BBC HD channels; if the channels are still unavailable then carry out a 'Freesat channel retune'. During last year's changes we found that a small number of devices didn't store the information after a Freesat retune so if that happens try a 'first time installation' or 'full factory reset'. Full instructions can be found in the manual for your digital TV or box. Further help with retuning can be found at www.freesat.co.uk or by calling their customer support team on 08450 990 990

Sky Movies 007 logo ahead of October 5 launch of the James Bond Channel on Sky Movies

Sky Movies has today unveiled the logo and advert for Sky Movies 007, the satellite TV giant's new channel dedicated to superspy James Bond.
Launching on October 5 in both standard and high definition, Sky Movies 007 will make use of Sky's recent deal with MGM and EON Productions to the entire collection of James Bond movies.

All 22 Bond films will be shown on the channel without any adverts; from Dr No in 1962 to the last Bond film, Quantum of Solace, starring Daniel Craig. Sky, which poached the rights from ITV, has also snapped up two non-EON produced titles - the 1967 Casino Royale spoof Bond film and Never Say Never Again.

The new Sky Movies 007 logo features the famous 007 gun emblem from the Bond franchise, marking the first time that a movie emblem has been incorporated into a Sky channel brand.

It will get its first on-air outing today in a television and cinema advert for the channel, which blends various famous Bond car chase sequences using footage form Dr No, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Spy Who Loved Me, The Living Daylights, Goldeneye, The World Is Not Enough and Quantum of Solace.

Produced in-house by Sky Creative, the ad features all the actors who have played Bond over the years - Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. "The Sky Movies 007 HD logo marks the first time in Sky Movies' history we've incorporated the logo of another film brand into our own; partnering our logo with Bond's 007 emblem shows just how passionate and excited we are about the arrival of this brilliantly British film franchise to our service in its 50th anniversary year," Sky's brand director Lucian Smithers said.

The new channel launches to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Bond franchise, as Dr No was released on October 5 in 1962. Sky Movies customers will also be able to watch all the 22 Bond films on-demand via Sky Anytime+ on the television, or on other devices via the Sky Go service. Anyone who subscribes to Sky Movies via NOW TV, Sky's new internet-delivered TV service, will also be able to watch the entire Bond back catalogue. Skyfall, the 23rd movie in the franchise, will be available to rent through Sky Store and air on Sky Movies in 2013.

One million Apple IDs leaked online, hackers claim

A hacking group claims to have released one million Apple device IDs that it says were stolen from an FBI computer.

The group AntiSec also claims to have access to more than 12 million other IDs, which it has not released, as well as account holders' personal information. The personal information is said to include user names, device names, telephone numbers and addresses.

According to experts this information could be handed to spammers and potentially used to infect computers and steal credit card details. In a statement published online the group said that it had published the information to bring attention to the FBI apparently using the details to track Americans. While the personal information has not been releaseed, the hackers claim that a significant number of users will be able to search for their device, using their Apple device ID The statement said that the laptop "was breached using the AtomicReferenceArray vulnerability on Java.

During the shell session some files were downloaded from his Desktop folder." "One of them with the name of ”NCFTA_iOS_devices_intel.csv” turned to be a list of 12,367,232 Apple iOS devices including Unique Device Identifiers (UDID), user names, name of device, type of device, Apple Push Notification Service tokens, zipcodes, cellphone numbers, addresses, etc." Graham Cluley, a computer security expert at Sophos said that the hackers may have chosen not to release personal information, to make it more valuable to criminals. "That is obviously information that has a real value.

It could be abused in several ways. By publicising the Apple ID details what they are doing is saying we have got all this data- we can prove that we have got it and Apple can test whether these device numbers are correct or not. "They probably either want to exploit [the details] themselves or they might for instance want to sell it on the computer underground to spammers who can send a targeted campaign to those email addresses."

"Maybe it would be claiming to come from Apple, maybe it would contain malicious links or be designed to infect people's computers and potentially steal information such as credit card details " AntiSec, or the Anti Security Movement, is opposed to the computer security industry. Experts say that hacking is a worldwide problem and has become much more visible in the last couple of years, because of the rise of so-called 'hacktivism'

This mixture of hacking and activism is designed to discredit and embarrass large scale organisations. AntiSec said it will not provide further statements until a photo of a writer at a US-based gossip website is featured on the site's front page dressed in a tutu. Adrian Chen is a writer at Gawker who has criticised hacking groups in the past.

Apple declined to comment.

BBC to allow mobile phone and tablet owners to download shows

The BBC is to allow people to download its shows to their mobile phones and tablets for the first time. It is hoped the move will avoid nightmare tales of holidaymakers accidentally racking up huge mobile phone bills while watching TV abroad. Now, they can simply download shows before they go Programmes to be made available for download from today on iPhones and iPads include Doctor Who. A version for Android handsets and tablets will be made available 'in the near future' The BBC also revealed new data about who was watching programmes on the move. It said children's content is particularly popular on tablets, as they are devices kids can sit and play with wherever. BBC Three comedy is popular on smart phones, and the corporation believes it is watched by young people while out and about or waiting for a bus or train. Daniel Danker, the BBC's general manager of on-demand programmes, said: 'This fundamentally changes one of the most annoying restrictions about viewing programmes. 'It means audiences are liberated from the constraints [of online-only viewing] and it fundamentally changes what it means to go on holiday.' 'With mobile downloads, you can now load up your mobile phone or tablet with hours and hours of BBC programmes, then watch them on the road, on the tube, on a plane, without worrying about having an internet connection or running up a mobile data bill.' Once downloaded, programmes will be available for 30 days, or within seven days of being watched. Up to 50 hours of TV will fit on a 16GB iPhone or iPad, or 25 hours of higher-definition content. Users must have a wi-fi connection to download BBC programmes, but will soon be able to select shows for offline viewing via a 3G mobile phone network. The iPlayer service has been a huge success, and the BBC says mobile requests for the iPlayer have leapt 142% in the past year to 30m a month. The iPad is now the second most popular way to watch the iPlayer, after the PC. The BBC has also made the service available via a plethora of other devices, from the Xbox 360 and PS3 games consoles to TV set top boxes such as the YouView service. source: dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2198028/BBC-allow-mobile-phone-tablet-owners-download-TV-shows.html#ixzz25V8KJsd4
